Editor-at-Large of mysinchew.com, Bob Teoh proposes the introduction of the Conscience Clause in the contract of employment for journalists to protect them if they refuse to undertake an unethical task.
In making this proposal, Teoh said the clause also meant journalists could claim compensation if they decided to leave the organisation.
Speaking at a forum entitled, 'Media and Ethics in Malaysia', in Kuala Lumpur today, Teoh quoted an example of such clause introduced in Spain’s Organic Act number 2 since 1997.
He also mentioned the case where Lord Justice Leveson acknowledged the proposal by the National Union of Journalists of Britain last year to include conscience clause as a working condition for journalists.
My question is - who decides whether such a task is ethical or otherwise?
